Russian Oreshnik missile worries Europe

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia this Sunday of using the feared “Oreshnik” hypersonic missile, a nuclear-capable weapon that is already causing growing concern among European governments and military experts.

The attack took place during one of the largest waves of Russian bombardments in recent months. Kyiv and several Ukrainian regions were hit by hundreds of drones and dozens of ballistic missiles overnight. According to local authorities, at least four people were killed and more than 60 were injured. Markets, residential buildings, schools, and civilian infrastructure were destroyed or severely damaged.

In a harsh message published on Telegram, Zelensky directly accused Vladimir Putin of pushing the conflict to a new level of aggression. “They are completely crazy,” the Ukrainian leader declared, referring to the use of the missile against the city of Bila Tserkva.

The “Oreshnik” has become one of the most threatening symbols of Russia’s arsenal. It is an intermediate-range hypersonic missile capable of carrying conventional or nuclear warheads, and its extreme speed makes interception by Western air defense systems drastically more difficult. Military analysts consider it particularly dangerous because it can maneuver during flight and evade many current anti-missile systems.

Fear across Europe has increased after several reports indicated that this type of weapon could strike European cities within minutes if the conflict expands beyond Ukraine. The deployment of Russian systems to Belarus has intensified alarms within NATO, especially among Eastern European countries.

This is believed to be the third operational use of the “Oreshnik” during the war, something Kyiv interprets as a clear signal of strategic intimidation from Moscow.

As Russia continues to deploy increasingly sophisticated weaponry, fears are also growing that the war may be entering a far more unpredictable and dangerous phase for all of Europe.
