There are emails circulating on the internet saying that on the 5th, the European Parliament would decide on new rules that would limit access to the internet, that we would have to pay for subscriptions for "packages" to access certain websites, etc.

I don't think this is entirely true, it's just scaremongering...

These "plans" are planned, but around 2012.

For now, they won't limit access.

Because whenever the European Parliament decides something, it starts shouting to the heavens.

They announce it on the news, on TV, in magazines, on websites.

So far I haven't seen anything about this, so...

The only news I saw on the European Parliament website (HERE)

was about internet control, protection of personal data, privacy, etc...

« For many Internet users, this legislative package will lead to much tighter control by Internet service providers, public authorities and other interested parties, particularly the music and film industries. »

In other words, the type of control is not access control, it is control over our personal data, but they have been doing this for years, our browsing data is archived by the operators, there is no longer any privacy regarding our online searches... That's it, control of information.
