Trump has gone off the rails.
He has repeatedly claimed that the conflict with Iran would be resolved within 48 hours (which never happened — in fact, it has already been going on for five months). He also said he would impose 20% tariffs in the Strait of Hormuz, then backtracked.
Now, just as he once said he wanted to take over Greenland…
With the November midterm elections approaching — elections that could cost Republicans control of Congress — Trump urged Americans to accept the economic impact and slightly higher gasoline prices as the cost of preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. He then referred to the Strait of Hormuz as the next territory of the United States.
As a public statement from a President, his words signal an escalation in rhetoric surrounding the strategically vital waterway that carries a significant portion of the world’s oil supply.
