The ceasefire in the Gaza Strip came into effect at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday (October 8), the Israeli army announced, following the agreement reached Wednesday between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas.
"The ceasefire agreement came into effect at 12:00 p.m.," Israeli army spokesman Avichai Adrai said in Arabic in a message on the social media platform X.
The same official indicated that Israel Defense Forces (IDF) troops are already "at the new operational deployment lines, based on the ceasefire agreement and the return of the hostages," referring to the so-called "yellow line," defined in the agreement brokered by the United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, based on the peace plan presented by US President Donald Trump.
This Friday morning, the Israel Defense Forces began withdrawing from Gaza toward the so-called yellow line, in accordance with the current ceasefire agreement, abandoning cities such as the capital and other urban areas.

We'll see how long the ceasefire "lasts," as this conflict has been going on for decades, and both sides are constantly carrying out attacks to "undo" the ceasefire agreement.
