Cyberattack affects European airports

A cyberattack that began on Saturday (September 20) has left airline systems across Europe struggling for a third straight day. The breach disrupted check-in and boarding operations, forcing Brussels Airport to cancel several flights on Monday (September 22) in an effort to prevent long queues and delays.

According to Reuters, Collins Aerospace—the RTX subsidiary responsible for the compromised software—has not yet delivered a secure, updated version to fully restore operations. The issue stems from the MU SC platform, widely used by multiple airlines. On Sunday (September 21), 52 of 257 scheduled departures at Brussels had already been canceled.

London’s Heathrow Airport confirmed that most flights were still operating, though recovery efforts are ongoing. In Berlin, staff reverted to manual check-in procedures to limit disruption.

EU authorities have opened an investigation into the source of the attack, which comes amid a growing wave of cyber incidents targeting critical infrastructure and major companies across the region.
