A bomb‑carrying drone forced the temporary closure of Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany. A second drone later struck a DHL aircraft.
Flights were suspended overnight after authorities found a drone with an explosive device near the runway. A DHL cargo plane, unable to land due to the shutdown, was hit in mid‑air by another drone.
The German government confirmed the discovery of the unidentified drone, which halted air traffic for two hours. Authorities believe the device contained a simple homemade explosive made from fertilizer and gasoline, though it was damaged and did not detonate.
Authorities treated the incident as an attempted attack, deploying an explosives disposal unit and diverting multiple flights. The DHL aircraft later landed safely in Hanover with minor damage.
The investigation is being led by Leipzig authorities with NATO involvement.

It appears to have been a hybrid Russian attack.
That's what German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said yesterday.
Leipzig airport functioned as a distribution center for Western military materials to Ukraine, in addition to being used for transport services by NATO.
Furthermore, there are indications that the material used is a military-grade explosive.
