 Scientists alert for Giant Solar Storm

The alert is from scientist Florian Günzkofer, from the German Aerospace Center, on the Handelsblatt portal.

Sunspots are also giants, seen in 1859 before the storm that became known as the "Carrington Event."

A solar storm can cause an ejection of coronal mass, with giant plasma clouds launched over space at thousands of km/h.

A coronal mass ejection can affect Terra – and interfere with the functioning of satellites, communication systems or electrical networks.

Well, a solar storm can damage critical infrastructure around the world.

And there are prejudices of billions of euros. According to the insurance company Lloyd's, a solar storm can cause, in the global economy, a prejudice of just over 2 billion euros over the next two five years.

The most recent solar storm was recorded on November 12. Last year, there was a loss of 85 million euros.

But this time the alert is of another level, precisely because of the size of the previously mentioned sunspots – there is a correlation between the size of these spots and the intensity of the storm.

According to the "Economic Times," the sunspot complex is called AR 4294–4296 and is located on the western edge of the sun.

One of the largest sunspot groups of the decade

Spaceweather.com reports that AR 4294–4296 is among the largest sunspot groups observed in the last decade and is capable of launching powerful X-class solar flares, the strongest category on NOAA's solar flare scale. Any coronal mass ejection (CME) launched from this region would be "geo-effective," meaning it could interact directly with Earth's magnetic field, according to The Mirror's report.

But it is still not possible to precisely assess the probability of a severe solar storm. “As the sunspots you currently see will not enter the eruption, we cannot predict if something is going to happen and, if it happens, what it will be with two effects.”
