Shooting near the White House, two police officers injured, one dead.

Two National Guard soldiers were seriously injured after being shot in Washington D.C., less than two blocks from the White House, in an attack that the city's mayor called a "targeted shooting."

Police reported that a lone suspect (an Afghan) opened fire on two West Virginia National Guard members on Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 26), before being subdued by other National Guard members who were nearby and heard the gunfire.

U.S. President Donald Trump, who was in Florida at the time of the attack, stated that the alleged shooter was an Afghan citizen who entered the U.S. in September 2021.

He vowed that his administration would ensure the suspect "pays the highest possible price" for "an act of evil, an act of hate, and an act of terror."

Current news reveals that one of the officers, 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom, has died. She was an Army specialist.

The other soldier who was also wounded and remains in critical condition is Air Force Sergeant Andrew Wolfe, 24.
