American F-35 Fighters and Weapons for Israel - passed through Lajes Base

There's a new controversy in Portugal because, according to reports in April, American F-35 fighter jets stopped at Lajes Base (Azores) en route to Israel.

Portuguese government mentions three fighter jets, but the Spanish newspaper "El País" mentioned six.

Paulo Rangel's Ministry initially denied this, but the minister later corrected his response: he was not informed of the movement of weapons to Israel and will open a process to "determine responsibility." An entity within the Ministry of Defense had already given authorization.

Meanwhile, our Prime Minister Luís Montenegro says this cannot be seen as "an arms sale" to Israel.

Can't it be?

Well, dear reader, I can sell you a watermelon stuffed with grenades, and technically I'm only selling one watermelon!

Each F-35 fighter jet can carry 2 to 6 AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles or bombs in its internal compartment.

Furthermore, the F-35 can use underwing mounts to carry more missiles, increasing its payload capacity.

We don't know, and no one will ever admit it because it's "classified," whether the F-35 fighter jets were disarmed or armed for Israel.
